Witold Konopka is a molecular biologist, specialized in generation of transgenic animal models. During his PhD studies he participated in the implementation of transgenesis procedures in the first in Poland laboratory of genetically modified animals. He is a co-author of two patent applications in this field. He took his postdoctoral fellowship in the Laboratory of Prof. Gunther Schutz at German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, where he started to work on the role of microRNAs in the brain. Since 2012, after returning to Poland, he is a group leader at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS (lam.nencki.gov.pl).
